Bonnie Brown 1Have you and a friend ever gone to an art show, shopped for wall hangings, or decorated a home and realized just how different your tastes are? Something that just leapt off the wall at you, that you just had to buy and take home, had your friend shaking her head with ‘yuck, so ugly’? That disparity is exactly what makes art fascinating…and controversial.

Spend the afternoon with Bonnie Brown learning the art of art appreciation:  slow looking instead of a quick visceral reaction. Take the time to observe the nuances, the lighting, the brushstrokes and the composition. Learn to challenge yourself on the various impressions that a particular piece evokes. Participate in a relaxing exploration of art as Brown brings art up-close and personal and explains the various aspects of true art appreciation.

Join Bonnie Brown, Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1-3 p.m., for tips on viewing different types of art, its display presentation, subject matter and principles. She will share visual strategies as we ‘look’ and learn together in developing greater art appreciation. Brown has a long docent background in major museums, is past chair of the Greater Philadelphia Area Docent Consortium and a trainer and founder of Docents on the Road.
