The largest outdoor Easter pageant in the world
Registration opens February 21
Celebrate the Easter season with an evening that includes dinner and an organ concert at Organ Stop Pizza followed by the Easter pageant at the Mesa Mormon Temple. With so many people expected to attend, the best way to get there is via bus from PebbleCreek; let someone else drive and worry about the parking! At Organ Stop Pizza everyone can order (and pay for) whatever they like. The pageant begins at 8 p.m.
First stop: Enjoy your dinner dinner at the Organ Stop Pizza restaurant while listening to a musical performance by an experienced organist. The Wurlitzer theatre organ was originally built for the Denver Theatre in Denver, Colorado, and was installed in 1927 and used regularly until the early 1930s. With the advent of talking pictures and the 1930s depression, the organ was rarely heard. It was silenced when a fire in the auditorium caused extensive damage to the organ's relay system.
Then in 1975, the Mesa location of Organ Stop Pizza opened with the totally rebuilt and enlarged organ. The Mighty Wurlitzer is known as the biggest and best in the world as attested to by many of the world's finest theatre organists and, more importantly, the hundreds of thousands of patrons who visit each year.
Second stop: The Mesa Easter Pageant is held on the grounds of the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, . It’s an eighty-one year tradition that has grown over the decades from an intimate Easter sunrise service to a full scale production featuring a cast of hundreds and a soundtrack recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. The pageant is eagerly anticipated
This much loved outdoor performance has inspired generations. The pageant itself tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ and features a new script, score and stage. The stage is set on the north lawn of the temple with over 9,500 chairs provided for guests in a general admission format. Over the course of the week and a half run, organizers expect to welcome over 100,000 guests, making the Mesa event the largest outdoor Easter pageant in the world.
