Celebrate the Christmas season with LifeLong Learning. Once again, we'll bring PebbleCreek residents to Mesa for an evening that includes dinner and organ concert at Organ Stop Pizza and a chance to see the spectacular Christmas light display at the Mormon Temple.
First stop: Enjoy your dinner at the Organ Stop Pizza restaurant while listening to a musical performance by an experienced organist. The Wurlitzer theatre organ was originally built for the Denver Theatre, Denver, Colorado, and was installed in 1927 and used regularly until the early 1930s. With the advent of talking pictures and the 1930s depression, the organ was rarely heard. It was silenced when a fire in the auditorium caused extensive damage to the organ's relay system.
Then in 1975, the Mesa location of Organ Stop Pizza opened with the totally rebuilt and enlarged organ. The Mighty Wurlitzer is known as the biggest and best in the world as attested to by many of the world's finest theatre organists and, more importantly, the hundreds of thousands of patrons who visit each year.
Second stop: After a delicious self-paid dinner and delightful holiday organ music, we'll go to the Mormon Temple to walk through the light display on the grounds of the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You will see hundreds of thousands of colorful lights, uniquely illuminated palm trees and flower gardens, and inspiring scenic displays. Listen to a holiday concert and view the annual display of international mangers. The light display is a beloved community event since 1979.
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, Dec. 6, 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
COST: $40 for bus; dinner is self-pay
