Registration opens Feb. 1
Join Angela Bergelt on Thursday, March 20, 1 p.m. to learn about our resident Monarch butterflies. Do you enjoy watching Monarch butterflies when they light on a plant near you? Did you know there is a group of citizens that have taken this a step further and joined a Southwest Monarch Study to tag these beautiful butterflies? Learn about the Monarch’s lifecycle, migration patterns, challenges and how to become a Citizen Scientist. You will be introduced to how Monarch populations are monitored, given an overview of tagging programs, shown tips for creating Monarch-friendly habitats, and using best practices for maintaining a Monarch butterfly garden (Monarch waystation).
Angela Bergelt, a nature enthusiast and amateur bird photographer, is actively involved in tagging Monarch butterflies as part of the Southwest Monarch Study in their efforts to track their migration to Mexico and coastal California.
