How the Goodyear Fire Department works and the safety programs provided to residents
On Monday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m., get to know the Goodyear Fire Department with Fire Chief Paul Luizzi and Tanya Tanner, Community Education Coordinator for Fire and Safety.
Paul Luizzi has served as the Fire Chief for the City of Goodyear since 2013. His presentation will provide an overview of the fire department’s organizational chart and will highlight the work that the different divisions are involved in. He will also talk about the operations of the fire department, what kind of calls that they respond to, how they are dispatched, how they staff fire engines and station locations. Luizzi has also served in a number of Goodyear leadership positions that include Interim Deputy City Manager, Deputy Fire Chief, and Battalion Chief.
Since 2005 Tanya Tanner has been the Community Education Coordinator overseeing Fire and Life Safety education programs and the fire department's social media outlets. She will be speaking about the Home Safe Home program including its home safety survey of residents' homes. This program that sends fire department officials to people's homes, provides better understanding of fire and fall hazards and how to mitigate them. Home Escape planning will be discussed as well as swimming pool safety.
More adults drown in Arizona than children. Through June 30, 2022, at least 24 adults have drowned compared to 10 children in Maricopa and Pinal counties alone. Prior to 2005, Tanya Tanner served as a volunteer for the Goodyear Fire Department.
There is no charge for this event. Raffle tickets will be available in the lobby of the Renaissance Theater beginning at 9 a.m.
