Dec. 6: The Other Einstein

The Other Einstein is a story of a relationship as fascinating as it is troubling. The Other Einstein offers  a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Albert Einstein's enormous shadow. It is the story of Einstein's wife, a brilliant physicist in her own right, whose contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight.

the other einsteinIn 1896, the extraordinarily gifted Mileva "Mitza" Maric is the only woman studying at an elite school in Zurich. For her, science seems like an easier path than marriage, until she falls in love with fellow student Albert Einstein. Charismatic and brilliant, Albert promises to treat her as an equal in both love and science. But as Albert's fame grows, is there room for more than one genius in a marriage?

Mileva's role as a wife and mother at the turn of the century make this an impossibility. Could the theory of relativity actually have been conceived by 'the other Einstein'? In this fascinating and thoughtful novel written by Marie Benedict, we learn that this is more than possible.
