Photo of Old Queen Creek Olive MillOn Tuesday, March 25, we explore the Queen Creek Botanical Garden and Queen Creek Olive Mill.

We begin the tour by discovering the enchanting landscapes, serene gardens, and tranquil water features at Pecan Lake Entertainment's Botanical Gardens in Queen Creek. The Botanical Gardens inspire and educate about elegant edible plants, demonstrating the future of sustainable, hyper-local, food production in landscaping. The 3-acre gardens feature one of only two operational industrial-age water mills west of the Mississippi, plus shops and themed demonstration gardens, including English, Japanese, hillside contemporary, Mill Creek medicinal gardens, and more. Many of the fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, and plants produced from the Gardens are available for purchase in the onsite Market Kiosk on Saturdays.

Queen Creek Old Stone Mill PhotoWe will next visit the Queen Creek Olive Mill, a family-owned company that grows and presses olives for the production of high-quality extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) from blossom to bottle. Their farming practices and products exemplify their dedication to the environment and the health of their customers.

The farm is located on 100 acres, three miles south of downtown Queen Creek. There are over 12,000 olive trees in 16 different varieties planted in traditional and medium-density type groves. The trees grown are selected for their ability to produce consistent and abundant crops here in Arizona. The farm maintains strategic farming relationships with trusted partners in Arizona, California and abroad. When needed, they purchase olives or olive oil from their partners.

We will take a guided tour to learn how they make EVOO at the Mill, how to use it in the kitchen, and why it's so darn good for you! Their experts will teach you how to correctly taste EVOO (no bread) and help you shop in the gourmet marketplace following the tour. Then enjoy lunch in the garden and afterwards we will have time to purchase many of the locally produced products.
